Hello everyone,

I am new to the group and have so many questions. I have been in remission from cancer for 5 years and I am trying to get some relief from these horrible menopause symptoms. I have been doing a lot of research and I just don't know what to take. I purchased a bottle of phytoestrogens, but I just saw online that if your cancer was driven by estrogen, you shouldn't take it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can take to help with my issues?

Hi QueenDiva. What are some of the symptoms you're having, and what caused them? Are they from chemopause, hormone therapy, or natural menopause?

I have found that gabapentin helps some with hot flashes, and turmeric helps some with joints.

I would recommend that you update your profile with details of your cancer and treatment, like I have below. It will help us understand your situation and help you better.

QueenDiva (great name!) my MO is very rigorous on approving any supplement in order to reduce my exposure to phytoestrogens. So yes, if your cancer is estrogen fueled, the thought is that phytoestrogens shouldn't be taken.

To add to orange flower's post, there are medications that can help with hot flashes or you can try acupuncture which works very well for me personally. Have you had any discussions with your MO?

My menopausal challenges have been few. I deal with so much in the way of medical challenges I also had little tolerance for such challenges so tried some natural over the counter stuff soon after noticing initial "symptoms." I finally ordered Herbal Hormone Complex" from www.vitacost.com and it has been so wonderful I think I'd be afraid to ever discontinue them. $11.80 per 180 capsules - take 2 per day... Please check with one of your docs before taking anything tho to make sure it's ok for you....

Yes - PLEASE do not take anything you buy "over the counter" without checking with your doctor. It may undo everything you're trying to accomplish.
