Hypoechoic mass and BIRADS 4.. I’m terrified
For all of you experts out there, is a hypoechoic mass indicative of breast cancer? My ultrasound results were postedtoday and I’m freaking out. The radiologist told me in person.. one mass benign and one very worrisome for cancer. Both the u/s and diagnostic mammogram came back as BIRADS 4. Posting relevant portions below. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
U/s
Right breast ultrasound demonstrates the presence of a 2.1 cm cyst at the 9 o'clock position 7 cm from the nipple. This corresponds with the nodular density. Right breast ultrasound also demonstrates an irregular hypoechoic mass at the 11 o'clock position 4 cm from the nipple. This is in the area of architectural distortion. This mass measures 1.8 x 1.5 x 1.7 cm.
Findings are concerning for malignancy. Ultrasound of the right axilla demonstrates several small normal appearing lymph nodes.
IMPRESSION:
Irregular mass at the 11 o'clock position of the right breast worrisome for malignancy.
RECOMMENDATION: Recommend ultrasound-guided biopsy of irregular mass right breast 11 o'clock 4 cm from the nipple.
Findings were discussed with the patient. Breast Composition: The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses C4D3: BIRADS CODE 4: SUSPICIOUS
BIOPSY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED

FINDINGS:
The patient returns for further evaluation of abnormalities noted in the right breast on the recent screening mammogram. Nodule was seen at the nine to 10 o'clock position posteriorly. Additional images demonstrate a well-circumscribed lesion posteriorly at the 9 o'clock position. Ultrasound will be performed. An area of architectural distortion was seen in the upper
outer right breast on the recent screening mammogram. Additional imaging demonstrates persistent distortion at the 11 o'clock position. Ultrasound will be performed.

Is your biopsy scheduled yet?
So far you know exactly what you knew in your other thread you posted, where the doctor told you that you have a benign cyst and a worrisome area that needs to be biopsied. Could it be cancer? Yes, and it sounds like the doctor believes it very well could be. Could it also be something like a benign fibroadenoma that forgot to read the textbook about how it should be shaped? Yes, We'd be guessing just like you. That is why the biopsy is required. Hope you can get the biopsy and answers soon.
As an FYI, It helps people to respond to you in context of everything that is going on if you keep all your questions in the first thread you started, rather than starting a new thread for each question.

Thank you MelissaDallas for your message. I wasn’t aware to keep everything in the same thread so I’ll remember that from now on. I don’t have a biopsy date yet but will call on Monday to get on the schedule.
