Asymmetry that requires additional testing

Hi, i hope everyone doing well. I went for annual screening few days ago and letter from radiology stated i need further tests. Check below:

Tomosynthesis and 2D imaging of the breast(s) were performed. Current study was also evaluated with a computer aided detection (CAD) system.

Breast density: Heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses.

In the right medial breast, far posterior depth, there is a partially visualized asymmetry only noted on CC view, tomographic CC slice 24.

No other significant masses, calcifications, or other findings are seen in either breast.

I already scheduled with them diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound which is in 2 weeks. The nurse i spoke to told me my result is incomplete thats why I need additional test but she did not seem concerned. When i checked online I could find different kind of assymetries but nothing about “partially visualized asymmetry". Anyone familiar with this term ? Thank you in advance

I think it just means that the asymmetry isn't clear, which I would take to be a good thing. Definitely a good thing that it was seen on only one view.

Approx. 10% of mammograms result in a call-back. 90%-95% of call backs turn out to not be cancer. Asymmetry is one of the most common reasons for callbacks. It simply means that there is an area of the breast tissue that looks a little different. Often it's just caused by the way the breast is squished in the mammogram machine and there is actually nothing there. This was the most recent case on this site:

Thank you Beesie, to say I am not worried it would be a lie, but reading other experiences here with mostly good outcome gives me hope. Thanks to everyone who came back and updated on their results.

It's normal to worry about a call-back, Dina... If you didn't have some worry it wouldn't seem so normal or honest. Important to focus on distracting and trying to focus on what you enjoy, etc. the next two weeks. This will be lurking in the background too, at times in the foreground. Hopefully when you meet with the radiologist after imaging all will be well. If for some reason it is not then we are here then too...
