    Secondary Breast Cancer CA15-3

I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer eleven days ago and my CA15-3 tumor marker reading was 157. I have read that the tumor marker is used by oncologists to get an idea of the amount of cancer in a patients system and to measure the effectiveness of treatment. Can anyone please tell me whether they had similar tumor marker readings at diagnosis and what treatments were effective?

FIrst - this is not a place to post as it says above. The mod will likely move your post to an active thread.

Tumor markers are not particularly reliable for a one shot reading. Most docs use them to see a trend - up or down - over a period of time. Also treatments are not determined that way. There's no way anyone could guess just with that number. You'll need to get grade, size, hormone readings, etc. in order for your doc to figure out what the treatment might be. This will come by ULS, CT, maybe MRI, likely biopsy, etc. Do come back & post.

Once the mods move your post to an appropriate location, please do let is know when you have more information.
