PET scan multiple areas lit up

Options

Strange times. Had right armpit pain beginning of September. Ultrasound showed suspicious lymph nodes and radiologist advised biopsy. Breast surgeon declined biopsy in favor of MRI. MRI was good- no suspicious areas. Yay! That was 9/11/2020.

Went to oncologist for regular appointment and discussed recent issues. Ordered PET due to recent issues and chronic low back pain. PET done last week and follow up office visit- said suspicious area in LEFT armpit. They want CT guided biopsy. Waiting on insurance approval to schedule.

PET report was released to online account and there are other areas that lit up- above the left clavicle, behind the sternum and the right vocal cord. Previous PET scans were not this complicated..

wondering if anyone has encountered a similar situation?

Hi Mebmarj, I am sorry you are dealing with this. I did not have this situation comparing an MRI to a Petscan with such different results. I had a CT Scan and Petscan with similar results:/ I had an ultrasound guided biopsy on one of the left superclavicle lymph nodes. I had some symptoms that were considered to be a virus until I lost my voice due to enlarged nodes pressing on the laryngeal nerve. I had to call my insurance company to push for the approval. Waiting for the biopsy is so hard! Keep us posted and know that we are here for you.

biopsy was completed yesterday. It was a frustrating day but I was assured we’d get results in a few days, hopefully before the weekend.
