Question about RT - only 5 treatments/every other day

Options

I met with my RO after I had a lumpectomy on 8/5. At that time, she talked to me about a new RT where I would only need 5 treatments scheduled every other day.

Has anyone heard about this? Is there a specific name for it?

I talked to her - it is called IMRT - Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy.

Still waiting on my oncotype score which will hopefully be low enough.

I start treatment next Wednesday and go every other day for 5 treatments.

how did it go? I have read about various places trying to reduce sessions, with a higher dose.

It wasn't so bad... but I never had "regular" radiation therapy so not sure how it compares.

Before every treatment, they would give me a CAT scan to pinpoint the exact location. They insert a snorkel like thing in your mouth and make you take a deep breath, then they cut off your air! The machine then moves around your 360 degrees delivering the radiation. I think I had around 7 doses per treatment.

You can google TomoTherapy to get more info.
