Still waiting for path after lumpectomy 8/19 CROSS-POSTED

I had my post op visit scheduled for Monday 8/31 and dr canceled it right as I was leaving to go there, they said they did not have all the pathology back yet. It's now Thursday 15 days post surgery and still path not complete. Is this normal? I am beginning to be worried that the results are delayed because they saw something they didn't like and went back to take another look at it. Or maybe even worse, they lost my samples and I will never know my full pathology?!

Please someone talk me down off the ledge. This was supposed to be easy peasy for me, she said everything looked good, very good prognosis. Now I am worried it is much worse than they thought. Why are the bloody results taking so long?

Also I really wanted Dr to look at my breast, the cancer side. Big hard lump in it and tender. Not hot or red tho, so not obviously infected. Rt side healing perfectly, no lump, much less tender. Which I understand, the left side obviously had a lot more poking and pulling with having both a lumpectomy and SNB, but I want to know everything is healing properly.

    Hi arabiansrock,

My surgeon is in the same office as yours, my surgery was 8/21, and my surgeon just received the pathology report today and called to report the results to me. Post-op is not until next week. Your surgeon may have received results since 8/31 and has not had time to contact you. I would keep calling the office to check! Squeaky wheel! I would doubt any delay is because of what was found the path report or that they lost your results.

If you are concerned about healing and want doctor to see you before post-op appointment, ask your surgeon and mention the big hard and tender lump if you haven't already--you can also ask PCP or urgent care to check if you want someone's eyes on sooner.

I'm sure you'll get your information soon, and hoping for the best outcome for you. Let us know!

    Hi Robin

I talked to them yesterday, they still didn't have report. Going to call again tomorrow lunchtime if they dont' call in am. They had the nurse navigator call me about the lump, she said it is most likely a seroma. said it could take months to go away. Great.

I hope you got good news, clean margins and clear nodes! Fingers crossed for you.

    take care
