I am scared and worried. 41 and had 3D mam and ultrasound following a lumpy area. Was told multiple cysts/extremely dense area and nothing abnormal No concern for cancer. They offered to aspirate cysts for peace of mind (all my choice) and cytology (another choice or mine) report comes back with

Your ValueThe ThinPrep and cell block demonstrate cyst material, groups of apocrine
metaplastic epithelium and some groups of benign-appearing ductal
epithelium. In addition, there are some groups of ductal epithelium that
are atypical. They demonstrate nuclear enlargement and nuclear
hyperchromasia that is concerning for ductal atypia.

since the results my arm/shoulder has been aching and I feel like my glands below my chin are enlarged on the right a bit. I also have bad anxiety and I am working a ton of hours so I don’t know if it’s contributing to all this.

Tomorrow they have me Scheduled for an MRI and Ultrasound/clip placement in the lumpy Area immediately following. I am so scared of the outcome.

Can anyone advise anything about the cells that are showing up in cytology? I hear atypical but are those Specific cells common with cancer?

Also why do you think the clip placement following the MRI? I do have an appointment with a breast surgeon later in the day tomorrow.

Two Different radiologists already told me that they didn’t see any cancer in 3D mam or ultrasound, but they also didn’t suspect this cytology to come back either. In their words. “They were shocked”. So I am just scared and concerned.

Hi—Are you getting a biopsy? I received a clip every time they did a biopsy so that they could locate the location for future reference, if needed.

not that I know of. I was only told a clip placement in the area they aspirated the cells. Notes for ultrasound say clip placement. I am guessing they will remove tissue maybe at a later date?? I have no idea

The clip allows them to see in future imaging where they were before. That way they can easily rule out things like scar tissue or other things they've already reviewed.
