HI everybody,

My mum has just had a mastectomy for a mammographically detected IDC. Her specifics are:

  • 1.5cm T1 tumor
  • Grade 2
  • ER+ PR+ Her2-
  • Ki-67+
  • 1 of 4 Sentinel nodes is positive (0.5mm micrometastasis N1)
She was clinically negative for axilla adenopathy and does not require an Axilla Lymph Node Dissection.

When she visited her surgeon he didn't mention what stage her cancer was. Based on the above information, I have deduced she is likely stage 1B.

If anyone has had a similar diagnosis, could you maybe give some advice as to whether I am in the ball park? I realise you are not doctors, however based on your circumstances I would appreciate any comment.

Thank you,

JPT

There are now two methods of staging.

Anatomical Staging is the traditional TNM (Tumor, Nodes, Metastasis) methodology. Pathological Prognostic Staging is the new method, introduced in 2018, that adds in grade, ER, PR and HER2.

It appears that your mother's TNM is T1N1miM0, which is Anatomic Stage IB. With that, combined with the ER+/PR+/HER2- and grade 2, her Pathological Prognostic Stage is Stage IA.

    Thanks so much Beesie,

My mum's Dr just confirmed with her she is Stage 1A so you were spot on.

I must say this forum has been invaluable for me during this time as my mum doesn't ask questions and the support from the wonderful ladies from this forum has helped me so much during this time.

My best wishes to everyone here!

    x
