hi

I'm new to this forum. I just had a mammogram and it's apparently showing some distortion. They took multiple views and ultrasound. I now have to go to get STEREOTACTIC biopsy.

So my questions are

What is distortion and is this potentially worrisome?

Can you do this procedure without sedation?

I have a separate diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia which causes enlargement of some of my lymph nodes including arm pit both sides. Wondering if they need to check these nodes rather than them just assume the enlargement is because of CLL ? I guess waiting for the results of biopsy would be appropriate but still.

Thanks

Architectural distortion can be a sign of breast cancer. But often it turns out to be nothing.

Architectural distortion found on a mammogramhttps://breast-cancer.ca/archite-reast-mammo/

"Breast cancer commonly causes architectural distortion.

Architectural distortion uncommonly indicates cancer. More common is for architectural distortion to be 'imaginary' in the perception of the radiologist."

    .

There is no sedation with a stereotectic biopsy.

What does a stereotactic breast biopsy involve? https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314149

    .

A sentinel node biopsy is performed (usually during the lumpectomy or mastectomy surgery) for anyone diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. There is no need to check the lymph nodes if your biopsy is benign.

Good luck with your biopsy. Let us know how it goes.

I had a mammogram in January this year as I had a spontaneous nipple discharge. I remember reading “architectural distortion” in the mammogram report. I was told all my test were normal, but because of the discharge I had a duct excision last May and they found DCIS. I forgot about the distortion until yesterday when I was reading information in this blog. Also I am not sure if the DCIS was found in the distortion section as I do not have the report with me.
