New lump after DCIS grade 3 and double mastectomy
Hi!
I am new to the group and a tad bit worried as anyone would be. I was diagnosed with DCIS grade III in 2016, and had a double mastectomy the same year. I went through tissue expanders, and finally had my implants inserted. Since then I have had a lump appear in the general area that my cancer was found originally, and that was drained and that was it. Fast forward 3 years later and the lump is back, and larger. I have an appointment today and I am worried. What are the odds of the cancer coming back after I had the matectomy?

Sallison, so sorry that you find yourself in this situation.
On average, approx. 1%-2% of patients who have a MX for DCIS end up with a localized recurrence. The recurrence might be DCIS again, or it may have progressed to become IDC.
I hope your appointment goes well. Since the lump was successfully drained last time, with luck it's the same thing this time, and can be drained and then you are done.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Thank you all for the replies! Doc is sending me for an ultrasound tomorrow. She did one herself, she wants a radiologist to look at it to be sure. She “believes” they are scar tissue or fat cells. I have multiple ones, she measured one to be about 3mm she said. I’ll keep y’all posted.

Oh Sallison, that would be wonderful if it truly is that. I'm sending positive energy your way......
