Did you all wear a compression bra after your mastectomy? I was not given one and my surgeon only wants me in a light shirt-absolutely no bra whatsoever. I keep reading about everyone wearing wraps and/or compression bras. I am so confused on this! Thx!

StartNew - each surgeon has their own priorities and recommends different procedures. SOme of this depends on the kind of surgery &/or the type of implants &/or what they discovered during surgery. But it's best to follow the recommendations of your particular surgeon - not your friends or the internet.

I was sent home with a surgical bra - loose, light & held the bandages in place over the incisions. He told me no other bra for at least 2-3 weeks. I did have TEs placed during the BMX.

I did not wear a compression bra until after I developed lymphodema down the road.

Thank you, minustwo. I appreciate your response! I also had TEs after a double mx. I am healing well and feel good, so no complaints! :)

    My surgeon doesn't recommend bras.

I had a nipple and skin sparing bilateral with tissue expanders placed and was told to wear a lightly supportive sports bra, definitely nothing tight andno underwire. Basically I ended up wearing what I call my dog walking bras since I could step into them. I think they did not want any tight compression to give the nipples the best chance at staying alive (which they did).
