Can Recurrence not be caught on us/mammo but show on MRI?
I have a question. Im sorry im probably going to sound like im rambling. This community has been my go to for so long. I was able to get my last ultrasound and mammogram two months ago. I finished treatment 4/2018 and have had my checkups as i am supposed to the whole time. Nothing concerning has come back up. But i cant help but feel like i NEED a mri. Maybe im just feeling a kind of way. Idk. I have been breast feeding on my untreated side since i had my baby 8-2019 and they are telling me i cant get one till i am done breast feeding for a month or two. But that i really don't need a mri unless i just want one. So sorry back story for my main question....has anyone had a recurrence not caught on ultrasound or mammogram that was then caught on a mri? its a really hard thing to research and i just dont know where to turn. No one in my family is understanding my fears. Since having my baby i feel its even increased ten fold. I have not been feeling well lately, i could list all my "symptoms" but right now it just could be so many things. Also i always feel like i have breast changes and i cant tell anymore what is me and what its supposed to feel like since my treatment and surgery. That's just the best way to put it. I have my next checkup with my oncologist in a couple weeks so im looking forward to talking to her. Now i really am rambling. Thank you if you read this far.

Short is yes it can, but not necessarily. Each type of imaging adds another different layer of what's showing. Longer answer is you really wouldn't want the contrast for the MRI in your system while you're breastfeeding. And it would need to be a couple of months after you quit for your body to go back to normal. And then there's the issue if your insurance would even pay for an MRI. Many will not if you're doing it "just because". Good plan to talk to your oncologist.

Putting on my lactation specialist hat - it is SAFE to breastfeed while doing radioimaging with contrast media.

thank you! @moth
I was actually told I could get it due to the percentage of contrast being almost nothing once it’s processed through the body and milk. But that viewing is hard with milk producing tissue even after pumping before. They said they didn’t want to give me a false scare. So for right now I can’t find anyone to do it for me yet
