Feeling nothing😞
I had a double mastectomy last June. My final surgery to replace my expanders was December 30th. I still have so much numbness which I really wasn’t prepared for. My nipples are numb but uncomfortable to touch. It’s weird. I miss feeling my husband’s hands on my breast. It’s so uncomfortable now. I have no desire for sex. I’m not sure if it’s the surgery or the tamoxifen. Before all this I had a healthy sex drive. It’s such a bummer. My plastic surgeon told me there is a nerve surgery she can do for the numbness. I’m just over surgery for right now. Any suggestions on how you all cope with this?
Thanks

I'm not sure if you meant to post in this forum? Are you considering having the implants removed and going flat or?

aprildawn,
I am not sure what you were told by your ps about implants and sensation before your surgery, but I suspect it wasn't much. For the vast majority of women with implant recon, you will probably develop some areas of skin sensation, but it is highly unlikely that you will develop anything more than that as you have no breast tissue. Everything was scooped out. My apologies if that sounds crude but think about scooping out the insides of a fruit and then filling the hollow shell with a gel filled balloon. Of course it's more complex than that. A few women have reported that they think they've had some internal nerve regeneration (around the implant?) and have some deeper sensations. I have almost full skin sensation on both sides but after 9 years nothing more. I knew about this in advance as my ps walked me through the pros and cons of each method of recon so it wasn’t a shock.I really liked my breasts and the ps noted that they were youthful but I would not allow them to come ahead of my health.
I have not heard of the nerve surgery you mentioned, but that doesn't mean such a thing doesn't exist. Wishing you the best.

If I am not touching the implants then they honestly feel not much different than my natural breasts did. If I am touching them, I have skin sensation on the underside and generally on the sides though I have a completely dead area in my axillary region on the side the cancer was on. Just recently, I have noticed that I have developed more sensation near the scar line. I also have sensation under the implants.
I have no sensation to touch in the center region above the scar line, however, when the skin gets too cold in that region I feel a painful aching sensation.

Deleted because I answered on the other thread you created -

Hey - STOP. Your posts are inappropriate.

MinusTwo:
Did you mean that for another thread? This one has not been active since August.

WC3, Minus was commenting to a really disgusting spammer who was on last night, using several different screen names. His screen names (which Community Members can not delete) were disgusting, his subject lines on the posts he started (which Community Members cannot delete) were disgusting, and in threads where he posted comments, his posts were vile (at least those could be deleted by the Community, and quickly were). The Mods have now wiped him out but it took much too long.
-
Thanks Beesie. I agree - took too long. Now my post looks weird hanging out there. Guess I'll see if the Mods can delete it.
AH Ha - I deleted it.
-
Beesie:
Thanks for the clarification. I miss all the excitement, lol. I'm glad the mods took care of it.
-
I couldn't figure out what was going on.... So glad for the explanation. I did see some very inappropriate thread titles though didn't make the connection.
-
Yeah. Minus is braver than I am. Rather than engaging with him, I was reporting the comments left and right. I think if more than two or three people report the same comment, it's automatically deleted. That's when you see the "This comment was removed by the Community" tag.
-
It used to require 5 spam reports for a post to be "deleted by the Community". I don't know if that is still the case.
There should be a way that we can also blank out (at least temporarily, until the Mods see the posts), a user name and subject line. Spammers have figured out that their posts get deleted so they create offensive screen names and subjects, which sometimes remain visible on the board and in the Active List for many hours.
-
Actually Beesie that is all I saw (offensive screen names) when I logged in later that morning. Then I saw MinusTwo's responses and didn't realize there had been other posts she was responding to. It was quite confusing. Once I saw your post just after noon and then MinusTwo's response to you I understood what happened. Would be nice if there was a way to have all that removed sooner though I do not understand how all of that works yet - too new...

Just be glad you didn't have to see it LivinLife. Very offensive,
