10 hour cold cap treatments??!

Options

hi everyone! My mom is set to start ACT chemo in a week. Her chemo is 3 hour sessions. I was wondering how much time the cold caps add on. My mom is telling me from start to finish, with chemo AND the cold caps, it’s 10 hours. 9am-7pm. I just called The hospital and they said she is having only 3 hour sessions starting at 3pm-6pm. Do cold caps add on an additional 7 hours? (My mom has a history of exaggerating and I understand this is a scary time for her so I wanted to get as much info as I can.)

Also- anyone have any success with 8 rounds of ACT chemo every 2 weeks and cold capping? Thanks so much!

It depends on the brand of cold caps. If you do the cold capping in-clinic I think they do an hour before and an hour after.

If you do Penguin, you do an hour before and 4(?) after, so 8 hours. They may give you a place to sit for the 4 hours after, but I'd suggest heading home and just switching them in the car.

Most people who do ACT don't cold cap because the cold capping is not very effective with that regimen.

    Dropfootcheeks:

I used Dignitana cold caps with TCHP where the T was taxotere. From the time I set foot in the infusion center to the time I left it was about 4 or 5 hours. Taxotere has a higher incident of permanent hair loss than taxol, so that was a factor for me. If I had to make the choice again, knowing what I know now, I think I would give taxol a try and avoid cold capping. It was very uncomfortable and tiring and I spent the time counting the seconds.
