Paget’s after radical mastectomy

Good Morning - I was diagnosed with DCIS on my right breast in 2019 and went through radical mastectomy and reconstruction done in dec 2019 (everything including nipples removed). After surgeries I started noticing a red rash on my left breast (not the one where DCIS was found) which became dry flaky skin. It went away when I used vitamin E oil but came back again 3 months back And it kept getting bigger(almost 2 inches diameter right under where my nipple used to be but now under the horizontal scar) . I finally went to dermatologist who gave me Eczema cream And within few days it looks lot better but she uttered Paget’s disease as a possibility (If it keeps reoccurring) since it only is happening on one breast. I am worried but this is happening on the other breast, and only after reconstruction surgery. Derm was concerned since it was unilateral and had breast cancer history. Anyone faced this?

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. May i ask why you had a radical mastectomy for DCIS? Radical mastectomies, for the most part, haven’t been done for decades and I don’t understand why such an extreme and outdated procedure would be done for DCIS. Could you possibly be mistaken about the type of surgery you had?
As for the rash, please keep pursuing it with the dermatologist if it doesn’t clear up. Take care

Appagirl, the "radical mastectomy" is a mastectomy where the pectoral muscle and part of the chest wall are taken too. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but maybe you had a total mastectomy?

I had a chest wall resection (kind of like a radical mastectomy, but not exactly) to remove recurrent breast cancer in my skin after a prior mastectomy.

It is possible to have skin metastasis of your breast cancer. A biopsy can confirm whether that is happening, but hopefully that is not the case for you. Stay in contact with your doctors just to be safe. I hope you find some answers soon.
