Hi all. After my diep i lost half of one breast to fat necrosis. Since then ive had 2 rounds of fat grafting to rebuild the breast. However for the last 14 months ive had new fat necrosis appearing in that breast (i easily have 50+ small cyst like lumps in that breast). I have had them scanned and have been confirmed as fat necrosis. During the time that I get new ones i can often watch them slowly move from my breast to other areas like my sternum, ribs and half way down my inner upper arm.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had the lumps move to areas away from the breast? My breast nurse spoke to a colleague and decided it must be a lipoma in my arm. When i later spoke to my GP they agreed that as it started exactly the same way as all my other lumps and is the same size and is now starting to reduce in size and become thicker overall it is almost certainly from the breast.

Id really like to find someone that has as had a similar issue as the different opinions is driving me nuts.

Thank you

    Hi Ewormas1,

I don't have answers for you but this will bump your post back up so maybe someone will post with more helpful information.

I had DIEP surgery and have developed small lumps close to the skin that US identified as fat necrosis. It was BIRADS 3 and so I have another US scheduled for January to double check, but I will most likely cancel that appointment.

I had two areas that were scanned with US, but mine don't move.

It sounds to me that even after your breast nurse told you it is a lipoma, you still have concerns and you won't feel better until you are examined. Sometimes we need the exam to feel reassured that cancer didn't return and that is perfectly normal! I know my doctors would rather I come in and find out it is nothing to worry about, than to stress over the possibilities.

I saw my oncology NP when I felt the lumps on my reconstructed breast and I am so glad I did, even though it turned out to be fat necrosis. It was worth it for the peace of mind!
