New diagnosis??? Malignant neoplasm of the breast

I changed surgeons last week to one at a large academic-research institute. I see her via telemedicine next Friday. I logged into the portal - I'm already a patient there for other medical issues- to check additional appointments being scheduled for breast cancer. I saw they have me diagnosed with malignant neoplasm of the breast. they have the last 2 years of mammogram CD's, recent (and past) biopsies, including the slides from my recent biopsy. I tried looking up this diagnosis and can't tell if it's something new/more serious? I get that impression though everything I see, including on this site, seems vague. Any help you can offer to help me understand this is greatly appreciated!!

Since you're switching to a new surgeon is it possibly just what they put in as a reason for the visit? I think it's not a diagnosis but a billing code or a generic why is this person being seen.

I'm sure you already know final dx isn't till post surgery pathology and it can change from the biopsy.

Thanks moth! That makes sense.... Breathe, right? Just came out of a hectic breast MRI so a challenging afternoon.

Sorry you are going through this. "Malignant Neoplasm" is very vague and can be applied to DCIS. Admittedly, it is easy for me to say, but I urge you not to read anything into this terminology.

I don't eat much junk food though was going to reward myself with Good and Plentys... forgot to buy them at the store. Just made a run to Dairy Queen for a Blizzard - Ahhhhhh.... enjoy your evening moth! Thanks again!

Thanks Jelson! You and moth helped me just slow this down. I am concerned I will end up with more than DCIS given Grade 3 with necrosis though I don't need to be there until and unless I am. The terminology just caught me off guard. I appreciate your feedback!
