Herceptin and Cardiac Issues

Hi,

I’ve been on Herceptin (with Taxol and then alone) for about 6 months. Oncologist called today and said my ejection fraction and strain pattern are no longer in normal range and we have to stop Herceptin.

Has anyone else been through this? Is there an alternative to Herceptin? I’m concerned that my chance of recurrence will be higher since I didn’t do the year of Herceptin.

She referred me to go see a cardiologist, which I will do, but am nervous that now I have some kind of big cardiac issue on top of everything else.

Any advice appreciated

    Hi,

I had to stop neoadjuvant Herceptin after the fifth round due to cardiac issues as well. I then had my surgery, radiation, and started Herceptin back up after all of those treatments. Again, it caused cardiac issues, so I never finished that year-long course either.

My cardiologist said the heart issues may get better or it may not, so I am on 2 different meds to keep my heart working properly.

You are not alone. Hang in there!

Usually heart problems caused by Herceptin are reversible and clear up. Unlike heart problems caused by Adriamycin. The cardiologist should be able to clarify. Good luck
