IDC , ATM positive - lumpectomy vs double mastectomy

I am currently on treatment for IDC with positive lymph nodes, ER positive, Her2 positive and am trying to decide regarding doing a lumpectomy or a double mastectomy because of my ATM mutation.

I am 37 with 2 little children, have some family history of BC (my mother).

How do people decide about either choice, being that ATM is a moderate risk gene?

Also conflicting studies about radiation: is proton therapy better?

Does anyone know of a Medical oncologist or BS that has done research on ATM or had ATM patients which would be available for consult and second opinion?

Hi JGL2020 and Welcome to the ATM Club. Sorry you are in it!

Have you by any chance joined the ATM Positive Breast Cancer Gene on FB? You will find more people with ATM there than here. It is a Private Group.

Happy to chat with you there!
