Info and experience with fasting mimicking diet and chemo

Hi there, I'm new to the community and new to cancer. I've had my first round of chemo and am trying fasting before my next one (tomorrow) to try to mitigate some of the side effects and hopefully make the chemo more effective. Has anyone else fasted or done the Valter Longo fasting mimicking diet beforehand? I've found tons of studies and trials and feel pretty good about the science behind it, but I'd love to hear actual experience with it and maybe some ideas of what kids of juices or broths to use. How long did you fast before treatment and how long after? Was your oncologist on board or reluctant? Were you able to cut back on other anti-nausea meds? Did you also have to do the neulasta or other white blood cell booster? I've started with 48 hours prior, but I think I'll go to 36 next time. 2 whole days is a bit much for me. I'm not totally sure how to properly use the forums yet or if I'm in the right place, so I apologize if this has been discussed a million times before. I've tried searching for info here, but I've spent more time just scrolling through posts that don't quite fit the bill, so I thought I'd just throw this out there. Thanks for any help or advice!!!

    Dear Susiemommy,

Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry for your diagnosis. We are glad that you reached out to join our members and share your experiences here on the boards. One way to find other topics on Valter Longo fasting is to use the search function in the tool bar. If you search "Valter Longo Fasting" you will come up with other posts that contain those words. You are right that the topics may not match your situation, meaning that they may be in forums with different stages or types of breast cancer than your own but they may offer you some members who have tried this method and you can send them a private message. Let us know how we can be of assistance as you find your way around. Good luck as you continue your chemotherapy and keep us posted on how things go for you.

the user santabarbarian used fasting and has written about it a lot. You might try private messaging her.

Or you can use the search option on the left to find either 'fasting' or search for santabarbaran's posts to read her experiences
