Should I work?

To be honest, I'm not sure how long I will live and what kinds of side effects I will have but the drs have been negative so I wonder if I should even pursue a career again. I would pursue a career that needs mostly mental capabilities but it was strongly suggested that my intellect and memory would drop if I survived long term.

I may not live long term either. No one knows what's going to happen to me. We have been quickly doing surgeries and treatments and waiting to see what will happen.

I am wondering if I should just not look for a new job until my health improves and I know what side effects I will get or never go back. Maybe I should just focus on myself and my toddler, focus on my family? Working was a major stressor for me so I hesitate to go back. Has anyone never gone back to work? I cant retire, I am only 28.

Perhaps you could qualify for disability. This would let you avoid the stress of working and let you spend time with your child.

With a Stage IV diagnosis you should be able to file for SSDI if you had worked previously and at least get that. If medical insurance is the issue most states have Medicaid available or state insurance on sliding scale based on income to cover you and make sure you are covered.

I know after 2 years of SSDI you can get on Medicare regardless of your age.

You can check it all on the SS website and set up info in there and do it yourself if you want. They will want a lot of medical stuff so you would need it all handy when do you do it.

I got on SSDI a year ago for another health issue I have but we first thought it could be cancer related and turned out was worse than I thought and another issue,. I did due an attorney to help me file mine. They charged a minimal amount and took care of all the paperwork for me and kept me informed. Contacted to get all the medical records to upload to them so it went a lot faster than if I had done it myself. For my situation it was worth the attorney's help.

We did it for my husband ourselves but his was much easier since he was on a transplant list and has other health issues as well so it was not so complicated we could not figure it out to do it.
