How many weeks did everyone wait from surgery to when they started radiation? I’m currently out of a vehicle the motor blew in my van so I’m trying to see how long I have before I HAVE to have a vehicle to get to radiation. I’ve read 3 weeks but I’d like to see how long others waited from surgery to the start of ra

Surgery was September. Rads started February. Almost five months. You should be fine

I didn’t realize it was such a long wait for everyone I thought it might be 6 weeks max I wonder why they wait so long?

Each case is different. I was HER2+ and had chemo before surgery. But I didn't have a complete response. So after the surgery healed some, I had a 3 infusions of a different chemo. Then started Herceptin before I started rads.

oh okay I just finished chemo I go to surgery next. I don’t think I had a complete response to chemo. I can still feel my tumor some. I’ll have my post chemo mri on the 17th. I’m thinking surgery might be around the 2 of August then rads after that

I had to have another, unrelated surgery in between lumpectomy and radiation. So I had the lumpectomy on July 11, a re-excision on August 8, the other surgery September 18, then I started radiation October 29th. All the doctors told me it should be no more than 12 weeks between the re-excision and start of radiation. (I'm sure this is different for patients having another active treatment like chemo.) The radiology nurse called a few times to nag me to start earlier, but I was adamant about waiting as long as possible to let my body heal - and the first few weeks of rads were pretty rough due to the stretched-out position.
