11 years out of the Madness .....
Hi girls ! just jumping in to give some of you the hope and love I received. Read my stats pretty dark...49 turning 50 at time of diagnosis. Thought I was a goner. It took me a year not to cry when I talked about it. My youngest was just staring UNI last one on the payroll ...it was time for me . BC had other plans. I was a had to know everything type person. I took my therapy and then researched after it was done . I went to a naturopath and was on a regime of meds from him for at least 2 years high doses of Vit D and many more . Joining on in discussions here saved my sanity. There are girls I still am in contact with.
Sadly I have lost a few along the way...nature of the disease. My mantra was not my story . Who knows how our stories will turn out ?Keep looking forward with your glass half full .
I thought I would never see my children graduate, have children and it has all happened.
Life is good I hit 60 last year 70 is my next goal ! Birthdays are a blessing and I embrace everyone.
Til next year
much love n light
Cheryl

Thank you so much for sharing! You are an inspiration.

thank you ... good to hear success as I finish chemo and head into surgery and possibly radiation. Did you have a choice about a single or double? I have had to advocate to get a DMX - they still say that having the other breast removed is prophylactic and not indicated.
Thanks

So inspiring, @victoriasecret ! Thank you for this

Swishy - I opted for a double as my tumour went undetected even when they finally got suspicious it was almost 8 cm my mammo had come back no abnormalities present!! I had had many scares in my life from age 26 on . I was very aggressive in my decision. I waited 5 years for recon and it failed so that’s that . Love n light Cheryl

Cheryl - I too was Dx at 49, turning 50, but my kids were younger than yours. I'm 14 years since my last chemo. My kids are now all grown. One was already attending University when I was Dx, but the other 2 were in high school and elementary school. My two big kids have University degrees and youngest is in University - my oldest is married. I've been blessed to see many happy moments with my kids, celebrate many anniversaries with my DH and many birthdays. I'm in the twilight of my career.
There is life after BC. And life can be good. BC is no longer the first thing I think about when I wake up or the last thing on my mind when I go to bed. I still come to BCO to pay if forward as was done for me. I have made many friends through BCO - some are only virtual but I have had the privilege to meet many in person.

Hi Cheryl - I was 2 months past my 50th birthday at diagnosis, after having pushed for a biopsy in spite of normal mammograms every year. Had no arguments from my insurance company when I opted for a double mastectomy with silicone reconstruction. Now I too am 14 years out and have been distracted from my recurrence obsession by 2 hip replacements, a heart defibrillator implant, and now the pandemic. Never thought I'd say that Stage 3C cancer would take a back seat in my worry arena!
Retirement also is approaching me: I'll turn 65 in February and my husband just concluded his 35-year career as a social worker last Tuesday! I've been at my job for 42 years but am too chicken to make such a big change right now!
Wishing many more good years to all - Julie
