I'm spending the RNC hours watching Rust Valley Restorers and Pawn Stars, etc on Netflix...you know, deep stuff compared to Trump and Co offerings.....
-
I cooked, dined on my deck, and watched "To Tell the Truth" (the irony was not lost on me). Then the RNC came on, so I switched to local 9pm news and turned off the sound (and turned to BCO) when RNC excerpts were played. I, too, fear Drumpf will win again--he's ranting about mail-in voting, saying insane things like the ballot-drop-boxes would spread COVID. His low-info voters are just stupid enough to believe that. We have our ballot applications, but are considering applying online to take that first potential postal delay out of the equation. Applications need to be received by Sep. 24 in order for ballots to go out Oct. 3. We'll take ours to the library, which is our ward's early-voting location (if volume is high enough, the city might move it across the street to the Armory). Hoping the drop boxes will be inside, and heavily guarded 24/7. That way, no lines and no contact necessary. Otherwise, I will--if necessary--drive into the Loop and take my ballot to the Bd. of Elections, even if it means I have to pay $30 to park. (No way am I going to risk public transit nor even taxi or rideshare).
So we got a bundle of mail--the envelopes that "Informed Delivery" had teased me were on the way. The UIC Health ones? "Patient Satisfaction Survey," one for each visit.

I just had my worst distance teaching day yet. We realize more and more each day that all of our training and knowledge of pedagogy is premised on the sensory cues you get when working with live children in the classroom . Still, I'd rather have a hundred more bad days like today than watch the RNC 😱

Much to comment on here, but first I I wanted to re-mention a subject near and dear to my heart:
23 statues of historical figures in Central Park, NY, but not one honors a woman.
Until now.
Tomorrow, August 26, celebrating the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, a new statue will be unveiled depicting 3 equal rights activists: Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. It's been a 7-year project by the organization Monumental Women seeking to honor women and people of color in public spaces.
25 million people visit the 167 year old Central Park each year.
MW is an all-volunteer, non -profit (who were given the suggestion to create a women's garden in Central Park rather than a monument).
"The sad thing is that so many people for so many years never even noticed that real women were missing in Central Park, and what does that say about the invisibility of women and the lack of recognition that women face in this country and this world for the hard work that they have done and will always do," said Pam Elam, president of Monumental Women.
The morning news shows will have some coverage of the event, but I'm tuning in to watch online. Years of research and effort was put into the creation and placement of this statue.

I was unimpressed by the speakers at the RNC convention. I thought the parts with Trump talking to the “real people” were awful. He wants to hear only how great he is and is not interested in their stories or lives. There were the usual scare tactics and fear mongering. The funny part was my Trump-loving husband fell asleep early on. Guess the speeches were not interesting enough to hold his attention. We will watch again tonight, but I do not expect it to get any better

Every decision you make—every decision—is not a decision about what to do. It's a decision about Who You Are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do. -Neale Donald Walsch

If this is what it takes to make a speech at your ole' man's RNC shindig I think maybe you shouldn't be doing it. Then again the ole' Trump pressuer can get ya. As an aside, it was said Jr. was glassy-eyed and on something. Awful speech as well. Maybe that is why he needed the pharmacy addition to get through it.

I think Guilfoyle must have had some too.

The Ratings Are In And Trump's Convention Is Losing BIG To The Democrats
Posted on August 25, 2020 by Andrew Bradford
Not only is President Donald Trump losing to Joe Biden in the polls, but it turns out that the first night of the Republican National Convention also drew almost three million fewer viewers than did the Democratic National Convention last Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times:
"The first night of the Republican National Convention averaged 15.9 million viewers on Monday, a sharp drop of 28% from 2016.
"The audience figure from Nielsen was also below the opening night of last week's Democratic National Convention which averaged 18.7 million viewers over the three major English language broadcast networks and three leading cable news channels. The audience for the Democrats on the first night of their convention was also down about 28% from 2016."
Just last week, The Daily Beast reported that Trump had been planning to counter a growing narrative that he is losing badly to Biden by at least besting him in the convention ratings:"For his and the Republican Party's four nights, the president has told those close to him that he is determined to beat Biden, the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, in one way in particular: TV ratings. Over the past week, Trump has requested updates on the television ratings for evening broadcasts of the Democratic National Convention, and has insisted that his event will crush their "pathetic" ratings."
So far, however, Trump's plans have come to naught, and looking at the scheduled speakers for Tuesday evening, things don't look good for the president and the GOP tonight, either. Here's what Republicans have coming to the stage this evening:- Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (Snore)
- Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) (Even Rand's family is likely to skip that)
- First Lady Melania Trump (Is she planning to give her address in English? If so, we probably won't be able to understand half of what she says)
Once again, we see that Donald Trump simply cannot measure up to anyone. He likes call Biden "sleepy Joe," but it looks like his convention is one big snoozefest. -

I say Peter Navarro is tripping on the same junk Jr. and Guilfoyle got into.
These two women are worlds apart in every way. The idea is disgusting to me.

I can't watch any of the RNC. I saw snippets on the news and that's enough.
Melania like Jackie...what a joke. Ugh their names should not even be in the same sentence together.
I too am worried he is going to be elected again. I was so sure 4 years ago that there was no way he could win and it was a sickening disappointment for me.
-
let’s not forget this. And don’t put her name with Jackie Kennedy either. Did read a good clip, said her accent is so heavy, won’t be able to understand her.
-
Melania and Jackie - hmm.... They both like nice clothes, their husbands both had extramarital affairs, two eyes, one nose, ten fingers,... I'm starting to run out of similarities.
-
Spookie -- your article is so right. Melania is so far from the Kennedy's and twice that for Jackie. She had such style and grace and was always someone who enhanced the WH in her role as FLOTUS. To me Melania will always be a gold-digger who doesn't mind showing way too much of herself and likely only married Trump to finally get citizenship. They ( I may be off with this figure ) dated I think for several yrs. before the marriage and citizenship happened. Then of course, she got her parents over here on her chain. I can't imagine Jackie K bothering with implants nor face lifts to the point where your eyes lift up causing a permanent squint. Also, while it may be somewhat stylish -- Jackie Kennedy would not have had straggly hair. Though it is catty I have seen M in a few outfits that I thought were not at all flattering to the figure -- even for a model.
-
Here is another thing that so surprised me. I thought people were over this -- maybe even moved onto Oleander. In fact I was amazed when I saw it. If Trump had to pay out of pocket for the people who do this kind of stupid stuff on his word, he might just back off of his quackery.

Guilfoyle was so over the top! Even though I lived in the SF Bay Area when she was married to then mayor Gavin Newsom , I almost find it hard to believe that this is the same woman. It’s quite bizarre
