I also liked the insight into women caregivers who push themselves to be as functional as possible, even without a spouse distancing or threatening to leave. I certainly saw myself in that description. My husband never physically stopped me from overextending, but he did ask, “Should you really be doing that?" several times. And we talked about my need to feel useful and capable despite my surgeries.
