hello!

I have just restarted taking my aromatase inhibitor (exemestane) and Ovarian suppression (lupron) injections after being off of them since February 2017 and the weight gain and side effects have returned, worse than I remember them ever being after treatment.

I was allowed to take a break to try for a pregnancy. We were successful and my baby is now 7 months and mama is just gaining like crazy (after losing 55 pounds). I weigh more now than I did at 9 months pregnant and I’m getting really down on myself - it’s just a daily reminder that this BC thing will ALWAYS affect me no matter how hard I try to not let it!

Have you guys been successfulat finding a diet to follow while on these medications? I need to start implementing some exercise as well but between baby and side effects of the meds I. AM. SO. TIRED!

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!

    Hi nsweeney43,

We're so sorry to hear of your struggles! We know this is a very common occurrence among many who have managed a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and one that is not so easily handled. We're glad you reached out -- we're sure others will be by soon to weigh in with their advice and experience.

In the meantime, we wanted to point out some helpful pages from the main Breastcancer.org site that you might find interesting:

We hope this helps get you started and we wish you luck in your weight-loss journey!

I don't have much to add, but I want to follow this post!

I gained a ton of weight after my diagnosis. I am still trying to figure out how to be healthy...before all of this I was so energetic and always on the move...I couldn't gain weight if I tried. Now my metabolism has caught up to me. After everything, I did start off slowly by taking a 10-15 minute walk each day. From there I worked my way up to doing some resistance training and jogging. I used to run 60-70 miles per week so this taking it slow has really been discouraging. That said, as someone who is now perpetually tired, I have found that even light exercise wakes me up a little and def improves my activity throughout the day.

    Hello,

nsweeny43, it is such a huge blessing that you could get pregnant and have a baby through all this. So happy for you. Weight loss is a struggle at baseline for us women, and adding meds just makes it worse. But don't loose heart, enjoy your little bundle of joy.
