Can you get cancer back in your breast after a mastectomy and flap procedure

    Nanner - you really haven't given us much information to go with since you haven't posted your prior diagnosis & treatment. Do go to 'my profile' and post your diagnosis & treament to date. But yes, cancer can hide in the blood or the tissues or the lymph system and re-occur. Hope that hasn't happened with you.

    Adding to MinusTwo's post, even with a mastectomy, a surgeon can never remove every single cell of breast tissue. Some breast tissue cells will always remain against the chest wall and against the skin. So even with a mastectomy, it is possible to develop a localized breast cancer recurrence in the breast area or even a new primary breast cancer. This only happens 1%-2% of the time, but it can happen.

    I notice that your diagnosis was in 2008. Are you having problems that are concerning you and causing you to think that you might have a recurrence in your breast area?
