Has anyone used ADA for time off after returning to work?

I'm in the middle of my treatment right now. Almost done with chemo and then will have surgery and radiation. I'm sure as most patients, I've used all my FMLA long ago. When I return to work I will still have Dr. appointments and tests to go to and no FMLA job protection. Can i use the American with Disabilities Act to protect my job when I need to miss a partial day for a test? I am concerned because one of my coworkers used all of her FMLA during pregnancy and then when she needed time off due to her child's healthcare issues after birth, she was fired because she had no FMLA left and our employer did not want to approve time off for appointments.
