Radiation

I take a lot of supplements, due to having Hashimoto’s, I was wondering if anyone has heard,or was told they needed to stop taking them? How long before they started radiation did they need to be off of them?

Mary - every doc is different. If you have an MO (medical oncologist) run it by him first. They run it by the RO (radiation oncologist). If they recommend stopping, I'd guess it would be at least a week.

Thanks so much, that’s a great suggestion! Might as well go right to the top.

I was told to stop taking antioxidant vitamins--i.e. A, C, E during rads. They said just top during the treatment, no need to stop in advance. I was only taking a multivitamin so just stopped that for the month of rads.

Mary333, My MO and my RO didn't say to stop any supplements I was taking prior to radiation. I can see why Vitamin A would be held. I continued taking C,E,B-complex, and others without any issues.

Actually A,C & E are usually stopped for surgery since they can be blood thinners. Along with Omega 3. I stopped them for surgery but not for rads. But your doc may have different ideas.
