Diep surgery 2020
My Diep was delayed from May 2020 because of Covid. Now it will be June 25th. Really nervous. It will be at Barnes Jewish in St. Louis Mo.
Anyone else?

I was originally April then rescheduled to July but it was canceled again due to other health issues coming up. I used to be nervous about it and am nervous if I might still do it later. But it's the right choice not to be in the hospital at this time in my area. I had been in the hospital alone and hated it. It's way better to do it when you can have someone with you during recovery.

I will be able to have caregiver with me. There is a hotel connected to hospital by a walkway. he will be able to be more comfortable while waiting. Not sure yet how many days in hospital. I am most nervous about the pain. Already went through pain with BMX July 2019. I am so hoping I am one and done.

I had diep & lumbar flaps on Tuesday. Surgery had to stop around the 11 hour mark. There was a problem with the vessels on the right flap. I’ve been in the ICU on strict best rest since. I went back to the or yesterday to get flap on the right closed up. I’m expected to be here 2 more days. Hopefully will be getting up & moving around sometime today.

Allisat how are you? I had my Diep surgery June 25th. 10 hours. I was only to stay 3 nights but had to have emergency surgery on a Sunday evening. The flap started to have issues so I had another 2.5 hours of surgery. Total days in hospital was 7 nights. It was so hard. I had a hot cover on my chest and room was 80 for 7 long nights!
However, I am now 7 weeks recovered and feel great! I’m slowly playing Pickleball without any running. My breasts continue to improve in appearance I still have swelling but every day I notice less

LoveFlordia I just got released from ICU into a regular room. A 2 night stay is turning into more like 7. I’m not doing to well physically or emotionally. It hurts like a dickens & I feel like a made a mistake going this route. My husband says otherwise. Glad to hear that you are healing well& fell great

Alissat, I am sorry you are having pain. I looked at myself after surgery and thought why does everyone keep telling me I look so good. Including my husband 😢I too was discouraged So I really understand what you are saying. Try to rest. Take all the pain relief you can. This day shall pass and you will find that with time you will feel better. I read everyone’s stories about Diep surgery and was very comforted. Even though I had setbacks and others didn’t I felt I was going to be pain free and happy in the future. And I am!

Just a quick note to the ladies dealing with the immediate aftermath of DIEP flap surgery. It gets better! It really does.
I had my surgery, BMX with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction. on April 4th 2017. So I'm at three and a half years out. I was supposed to stay 3 nights, but ended up staying 8 nights due to a collapsed lung. Like you, I hated the heat, the tightness, the drains and the swelling.
I didn't really start to heal until I got home. I was able to care for myself by the 10th day, and was walking around the neighborhood by day 14. I was also dancing in high heels at 5 weeks out. (Probably shouldn't have, but it was my chemo buddy's 50th birthday!)
I've had two additional surgeries to fine tune things and to construct nipples. I may have one more to give me more of a waist, or I may just do tattoos on my nipples. Haven't decided yet.
I have to say, I would do it all again. Without hesitation. The results are so much better than I ever expected. I have a dear friend who told me my boobs looked better than the ones she paid five grand for. 😁
In other words, give yourself time to heal. It takes time but hopefully in the end you'll be as happy with your results as I am with mine.
Best wishes for continued healing. Stay safe.
Trish

Finally home! I have bed sores☹️ Any suggestions on care & not getting more. I had a LAP flap at the same time as the DEIP flap.
-
I would get a referral to wound care for those sores. They are nothing to mess around with, and frankly should not have happened in the first place.
