Dental Issue Question

Over the weekend one of my lower back molars started giving me pain when I bite down on anything on that side. I am on the last day of my week off and start back tomorrow with Ibrance, Faslodex and Xgeva. I don't have an appointment with a dentist yet but I hope to make one ASAP. I don't know what is going on with my tooth as far as treatment goes. It could just be a filling or something easy. But then again, I could need a root canal. My question is, should I get my treatment as scheduled tomorrow or hold off until I know what needs to be done? Also, would all treatment have to be held off if it is a root canal or just the Xgeva? Thanks for your help.

hi -I had the same experience a few weeks ago on a Sunday and my dentist saw me that Monday and sure enough I needed a root canal. My onc had me continue with my meds and I had the root canal that same day. I was put on antibiotics for 10 days just to make sure no infection developed. I’m so glad I went my tooth feels 100% better. Good luck!

Kristin...thanks so much for your reply. I'm hoping the MO lets me continue my meds too. I'd hate to have an interruption. I posted the question in my portal but I don't know if they'll get back to me in time before my appointment for my injections tomorrow. I also hope I can get into the dentist soon even though doing so during the pandemic worries me.

Xgeva is potentially a problem, also chemo or any med that makes you more susceptible to infection.

I am on XGEVA, my oncologist wanted me off for at least two months before and after invasive dental work.

I had an implant done, work finished in February except my crown , couldn’t get it due to covid shutdown.

    so far, I am fine.

So my MO is holding off on my Xgeva for this month in case I need something more than a filling like a root canal or something but I still took my Ibrance and got my Faslodex injections. I managed to get an appointment with the dentist for tomorrow. Hoping it's nothing serious. But wouldn't you know, there's not as much pain today. 🙄

    Thanks Olma!

Ugh...I ended up having a root canal and it ended up being so painful. I had one before but this one was bad. I had what the dentist calls a 'hot tooth'. Yay me! But the pain meds have kicked in and I'm feeling fine now.

Thank you both for your replies!
