hi, I wonder how long lasted the chemo side effects after treatment? I'm a week after and things don't seem to improve. I'm getting Abraxane that is supposed to be a light chemo

If you haven't yet, please call your doctor to discuss the SE you're having. They should be able to help you. Sorry no one here has chimed in with any info. You might get more answers if you can describe what you are experiencing. Good luck.

Vilma65, I’m glad you are getting checked out. I had weekly Abraxane for the three weeks “on” and one week off. This was very tolerable for me. Maybe ask about that if you were getting a higher dose less frequently?

Prior to Abraxane I had been on a three week cycle of TCHP and my liver couldn’t handle that. Those SE’s were horrible. One thing I learned from that experience was to call a nurse even if the side effect was expected. For example, I was taking Imodium and I was still having problems. I thought this was OK because diarrhea was an expected SE, but when I called the nurse at the urging of my Mom and DH, I was given a stronger drug and when I continued to have other, different SEs my MO changed the treatment.

I don’t have evidence, but I think the initial drug selection could be partially a result of insurance policies that approve less expensive treatments first and then approve more expensive options only after the less expensive drugs don’t work for the patient.

One thing is sure, treatments that work and are easy for one person doesn’t mean it will be so for someone else. Most people have an easy time with Kadcyla, but I do not

Cyathea , sorry you are having a hard time on kalcyda. I'm get an infusion and then off for three weeks. I guess that is because treatments for stage IV are less aggressive.

In my case there is no I surance issues , since I live in Canada not sure how the desicion is made. As far as I know Abraxane is easy on most people. I called my mo after 3 days, but when things didn't improve I waited s a whole week. Big mistake

    ((HUGS))

My chemo journey was several years ago now, as you can read in my little story at the bottom of my post. I had SEVERE side effects immediately and ended up saying "screw this".

I did not begin to feel 80% normal again after chemo until the 3 year mark. I am now at 6 years post diagnosis and feel 100%. So it took me 6 years to feel normal again.

I also ultimately declined hormonal therapy and other interventions due to quality of life. For *me* quality is everything, quantity is not.

I don't mean to scare you, but be gentle with yourself and know that it may take time for you to feel 100% again.
