hey everyone! I went and had an ultrasound done 3 years ago for some lumps in my breasts. During that the doctor told me I had a clogged/blocked milk duct. He didn’t write this down just kinda said it in passing. I didn’t really think anything about it at the time. My breasts have hurt in the same spot for the last couple of years but I always chalked it up to a clogged duct. Until the other night I was in pain and looked it up online and it said that those resolve themselves in days. I’m concerned. I’ve never been pregnant so how would I have had a clogged duct? And is this something the doctor would be able to differentiate on an ultrasound from a lump associated with breast cancer? Do they get mistaken for each other? Sorry I just don’t know anything about this stuff. Thank you guys

Did he say blocked, or dilated? Don’t know how old you are, but as we age some of us get dilated ducts because they fill up with cellular debris as we age and that can make them feel lumpy

Cancerous lumps tend to present certain characteristics that would alert a doctor that a biopsy is needed. If your doctor did not send you for a biopsy, such characteristics probably weren't present. However, given that you are having ongoing pain, I don't think it would hurt to get an updated ultrasound in addition to a mammogram. I am not sure how you can get a clogged duct if you haven't been pregnant. There are other benign conditions that can cause breast pain. You should check with your PCP or GYN and have them order a new ultrasound and mammo for you so you have a better idea of what you are dealing with.
