Bone Scan Question

My wife was diagnosed with Mets BC in September 2019, to the bone only. There was an initial hotspot that we knew about back then on her spine, but during her scan this past Friday, they not only took an extra look and pics at her spine, but they took extra looks at her brain as well. We get the results on Tuesday morning, but is this a bad sign that it may have spread to her brain? We are one of so many families that have to wait for scan results, but while we wait, was wondering what others thought from their experiences. Thank you!

I am so sorry, the waiting is so anxiety producing. For me it is impossible not to go to those worst case scenarios. What I have done, is found out how to get access to my imaging reports as quickly as possible. In my community the imaging is done at an imagining center or the cancer center. The imaging center will release the report to me if I ask for it and show my driver's licence usually 24 hours after the scan. The cancer center usually posts the scan on the patient portal. Some patients are more comfortable with doctor's reviewing scans because you do get more information. I do like to get facts yes progression, no progression right away so I can emotionally process it, then be ready with questions for my doctor. I hope this helps.

Good luck I wish you much peace in your waiting

Bone scans will pick up bone only mets. If anything it would pick up a skull met which is exactly the same as a bone met. I was freaked out by a skull met & my MO explained it was in the brain. good luck!

My wife's results came back fine, no spread to the brain. Scans show Ibrance is working pretty well, but she is still experiencing localized pain (3-4 level) constantly. Our oncologist is thinking the monthly bone strengthening shots may be the cause of her pains (right knee, right ankle, hips), but it is a catch-22, as the scans show some bone healing taking place in certain areas. We were just relieved that the cancer is being kept at bay for now, and she will deal with the pain for now. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes!
