Waiting on biopsy results
Hello! I’m new here. I’m 46 and have been having yearly mammograms since I turned 40. Last October was the first time I got called back for additional views on my left breast. Coincidentally, I had felt a small, pebble size lump that night. Went in for additional views and and ultrasound. Was told Mammo showed normal calcifications. Nothing to be concerned about. Ultrasound couldn’t find anything either. Last Friday I felt a hard large lump in the left breast (same area I felt the pea size one 6 mo prior) had diagnostic Mammo and ultrasound a few day’s later. Ultrasound report :
IMPRESSION: HIGHLY SUGGESTIVE OF MALIGNANCY - APPROPRIATE ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN.
BE TAKEN - FOLLOW-UP RECOMMENDED
The 0.7 cm x 0.7 cm x 1.3 cm taller than wide irregular solid mass in the
left breast appears highly suggestive of malignancy. An ultrasound
guided biopsy is recommended. |
BI-RADS 5
I had my biopsy yesterday. Not so patiently waiting for the results. Scared out of my mind. No family history
Has anyone ever had a score like that and it turned out not to be cancer?
Thank you all!

Welcome, Loreal21. We're so sorry you find yourself here with this worry! BIRADS 5 is suggestive of malignancy, but it's not a guarantee, and many people with BIRADS 5 findings at mammo and ultrasound have had benign findings at biopsy. We sincerely hope this is the case here! Please keep us posted either way.

Well, mr Doctor called with the news I didn’t want to get but knew deep down I was going to get. I have breast cancer. Going to see the breast surgeon on Tuesday for more info. What I do know: it is Invasive Mammary Carcinoma. HER -2 neu negative. Estrogen & Progesterone receptor positive. It is not in my lymphatic system and there is no necrosis. I cried, hugged my husband.... then something switched in me. My attitude changed to fear of the unknown to ok let’s get to the other side of this! I can and will beat this!

Hey Loreal21,
The beginning is the hardest. I'm sorry your diagnosis came back malignant, but I hope that there's a lot of good news coming up for you and that your path through treatment is as smooth and easy as possible. Good for you for finding the lump!
