Sentinel node biopsy and nipple delay

I was diagnosed with lobular on 2/20. I'm going in tomorrow for bilateral sentinel node biopsy and nipple delay procedure in preparation for bmx with reconstruction on 5/12. To say I'm nervous would be an understatement. Anyone know what I should expect to possibly feel like after this? I was told by my surgeon that it was an outpatient procedure and not to worry but I just literally have no idea what to expect. I have found a bit of info about the biopsy but close to nothing about the nipple delay procedure. It sounds terrible. And with covid19, I just feel like a big giant bundle of nerves. Ugh. I met with the hospital last week and they assured me that there are only a handful of covid patients there and that they are not anywhere near where I will be but still. Anyone out there have any words of wisdom?

I just had my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy today. I was super terrified and my blood pressure was very high. The nurses at every test and procedures - were so wonderfully warm and caring. It helped soothe my fears. Holding hands, soothing words and warmth in their eyes was my lifeline today.

I will give you one suggestion - and it really worked for me - the Ametop Gel that they prescribe to you - buy 2 tubes (cost will be around $20) - they're tiny tubes which come with 2 bandages with each pack - so you will have 4 now - cover a nice 1inch area around the nipple including the nipple itself too - thick application - carefully apply all four bandages 2 horizontal and 2 on the sides - carefully drape your bra on it without moving it.

I felt zero pain! And the technician was very impressed on how nicely the area was covered. It was just NUMB.

It's a long and detailed message above. Hope it helps. Goodluck with your procedures and surgery. It's tough but not too bad. Love to you!

Thank you! I am a little over a week out now. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, thankfully. They didn't numb it at all but it was quick so definitely the anticipation was way worse than the actual injection. I was feeling pretty good but yesterday and today, I've had a ton of discomfort at the incision sites under my arms. Ugh. I wouldn't really classify it as pain but definitely uncomfortable. The incisions look ok (not infected or red or anything) but I think it's just being where they are and the friction that occurs.Ugh. It's really annoying. Did you experience any of that? I can't wait to feel normal again. :(
