Post menopausal estrogen receptor positive
I have been on letrozole for a little over a year. Recently taking cialapram and atavan for depression and anxiety. I am being unsure about whether I can comply with 5 yrs. Of this and have skipped pills a few times. But I am still taking it for now. Having nausea and I think more with taking citalopram and letrozole together. I am so anxious about many things and this is one of them .I wonder if I have skipped too many and if I skip again will it even be useful to continue. Dont have appt with oncologist til Sept. I really. Dont know him that well. My primary says I should talk to him but of course I know he will say continue. I was stage 1 , no luymth node involvement but because of size over 2cm. I guess is why he chose letrozole. Also tamoxiphon would interfere with thyroid meds I believe I read. I know this is terrible to not keep taking but this depression and uncertainty of bone loss, fractures, etc. I refuse the bone meds..to many side effects. Need words of encouragement but not tell me how stupid I would be to stop

Hi there and I'm so sorry about the anxiety - this quarantine is awful. I'm on Tamoxifen, which actually strengthens bones, so you might discuss that option with your doctor if you can get a video appointment. But to answer your questions: no, skipping pills isn't a big deal and doesn't measurably increase your risk. And the data shows that just two years on an AI (or Tamoxifen) makes a lasting improvement so personally I am not promising anyone I'll stay on for five - I'm just seeing how it goes. So unless you are having awful side effects, I'd encourage you to stay on it but talk to someone about your other options.
This is a really tough time, so be good to yourself in other ways -- maybe a walk, ice cream, ordering shoes online? Those are my go-tos!
Wishing you the best.

Tamoxifen may interfere with certain laboratory tests (including thyroid tests), possibly causing false test results. I make sure all my doctors know I use this drug. I have hypothyroidism and take tamoxifen. I just took a little over a 6 week break because I had surgery. I don't think it matters if you have missed a few doses. My husband has a pill case for 7-days. Why don't you try to take your citalopram after Bkfst. I've read where it might cause nausea, but it was best to take in the morning at the same time each day. I read on this site where many take their Letrozole at lunch time. If you had a pill case you could make sure you were taking the medicine daily. Hopefully that would decrease some of your anxiety. When is your next bone density scan due? Medicare part B pays for it every 2 years. Make sure you stay hydrated. You can call your MO and let him know that you are having increased nausea. Maybe he can change the medication or maybe you could take it every other day for a few weeks. Nothing is gained unless you call him.
