Intraductal Papilloma
Hello, I had a excision biopsy done on March 16th and they found I had intraductal papilloma, said they got it all. I continue to have bloody discharge from my nipple daily. My surgeon said this is normal and not to worry. How long should one not worry about bloody discharge? Any advice or help would be great.

Hi Purplepumpkin, unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question but wanted to ask about your excision surgery. I too, was diagnosed with an Intraductal Papilloma in February but the surgeon recommended that I wait 6 months and then have another mammogram to check for growth. He said my Papilloma was small (1.5 cm). I had no discharge or pain of any kind and wouldn't have known it was there except for the diagnostic mammo, US and biopsy.
I know I'm going to have the excision surgery at some point and wanted to ask you what I can expect. The surgeon said that 25% of these growths can be cancerous but that he personally has only had one patient who was found to have Papillary Carcinoma after excision surgery.
I hope someone else will come along soon who can answer your question.

Hello, let me give you a little back story. In October 2019 I started having pus discharge. I did blood work, mammogram and ultrasound on both breasts this all should nothing. Ob sent off orders for a breast surgeon in December. Middle of January still nothing I called and they said it slipped. So scheduled finally. I was now discharging pus plus blood. So begining February couple days after my appointment, I became abscesed under my nipple it was hard warm to touch and no discharge due to backing up. I went in for emergency appointment and they cut it open right there and drained it. Gauzed it, told me to keep pressure on it and take the rest of antibiotics. Week later my incision site starting swelling again and busted open again so another round of antibiotics. Same thing happened again after finishing antibiotics again. I finally was clear long enough to get a MRI done. It showed just the abscess. I asked the doctor why it kept getting infected he said that he'd have to fo the excision biopsy with partial duct removal. Which was done March 16th. Week follow up appointment was told ot was intraductal papilloma. Right after surgery I was in pain they gave me pain meds still in hospital before discharged. Pain meds for home which I did not end up using. After my surgery follow up I called about the discharge again and doctor said it's normal and I need to wait. I still have some pain now and still am thinking to my self something is wrong with the bloody discharge. I now have a follow up in September but if I continue to discharge may get another opinion. Sorry this is long my journey to find out anything has been a long one. Hoping everything works out for you. I will keep you in my thoughts.
