Bruising, redness, and dry rough skin on reconstructed breasts

Hello,

I had a double mastectomy (skin-sparing, nipple-sparing) and reconstruction with silicone implants about 6 months ago and have since moved to a new state and have new doctors. I noticed what looks like bruises under the skin, one red bump that has changed in redness over the course of two weeks and feels slightly rough, and on the other breast's nipple there's a rough, dry patch of skin over a very dark bruise-looking mark. My oncologist and a breast surgeon both looked at and hand-examined my breasts and think they're ok. The surgeon said the red mark was probably a bug bite and looked like it was healing, the rough patch was dry skin, and the bruise-y spots were bruises. I do bump my boobs on things a lot because they have no feeling and I don't yet have any spatial awareness about them. I see my oncologist again in 2 1/2 months. Should I have him do an MRI? Do these signs point to something else problematic? Two doctors telling me not to worry; I really want to believe them. But I'm scared and just not used to any of this. Thanks!

Hi misnomer17! We want to welcome you to our community, we hope you find support and helpful information here. And we certainly understand your concerns! A heightened sense of awareness when it comes to your breast health after a diagnosis is normal and well-advised.

Have you seen a dermatologist to check on some of the skin issues you mentioned? It may be a good idea, especially considering changes to the skin and tissue in your newly reconstructed breasts may be expected. If the issues you mentioned don't improve, or get worse, we would suggest following up with your oncologist before your scheduled appointment, just to be on the safe side. Please keep us posted on what you learn!

Thank you so much for getting back with me quickly. I had not considered a dermatologist but your suggestion makes sense. I'll make an appointment with one. And keep an eye on the situation. Thanks!

I was bruising for 6 months for no reason and I demanded a mammogram and the tech said I was crazy they found a giant tumor in it.... anyways it came back a Fibroadenoma but to close the case I was required a lumpectomy. That hurt a lot.But the bleeding stoped after that ...
