I have bilateral tissue expanders. They were put in back in October. Had my last fill 4 weeks and I'm scheduled to see my PS in 5 weeks. I live in an isolated area so I have to fly to see her. For the last few weeks I've been feeling unwell- tired, no appetite, just BLAH. Then last week one of my breasts suddenly seemed to swell, became hard and painful, and eventually red. I went to the hospital today and saw a GP. He thinks it's an infection, is treating me with i.v. antibiotics and scheduled me to see the local general surgeon Monday morning. I'm feeling worried, just wish seeing my PS right away was an option. Has anyone experienced anything like this??

    Hello Vr,

I believe you should call your PS and insist on an appointment asap. This happened to me and I was put in the hospital for 3 days with very strong intravenous Iv antibiotics until the culture results confirmed I had a non-antibiotic resistant infection. I was sent home with two different antibiotics for over 5 weeks. My PS and I decided to remove the expander and treat the pocket with an antibiotic and replace with a new expander. That was 3 months ago. I am currently undergoing radiation treatment with no issues. Apparently, infection and expanders are common which I was not aware of when deciding on implant reconstruction. Just be cautious, things can go south pretty rapidly.

I'm sorry, I haven't experienced this, but I'm thinking good thoughts for you that it is minor!!!
