PASH Diagnosis

I had a grape sized lump in 2009 that was diagnosed as PASH on core needle biopsy. Two different doctors wanted to remove but everything I read said it was non cancerous, and would not turn into cancer so no need to remove. Over the last 9 years the lump has grown but I've always stood firm against surgery. Had a mammo yesterday and dr called today saying lump was now lemon sized and again recommended removal. Again, everything I read says PASH is and will always be noncancerous. Anyone else been diagnosed with PASH (how long ago?) and decided against surgery?

At some point in time something worse could hide behind that PASH on your mammograms. When you start getting 40 or fifty they will recommend removal of even benign fibroadenomas for exactly that reason

Also, anything that large can press against nerves or a vein/artery and cause problems. I had a lipoma about that size on my neck, right under my jaw. I had it removed mostly because it was ugly and embarrassing, but after it was gone, my high blood pressure came down significantly - so it was pressing against something! You might develop numbness or aches in your breast or arm from a passenger that size.

Kittymom4463, the others make good points. It may be worth a second opinion before you make your decision.

I was monitored for 4 years. Mine grew quite large. The decision was made to remove it for two reasons. One is truly the only way to know what it is, is to look at the tissue. Secondly, the size of my tumor could have an effect on accurate readings of my mammograms. It’s a tough choice for sure. I had to have a reduction because I had so much tissue removed.
