Breast Rash That Feels Like Cobblestones
Hello,
I’ve had a breast rash for two months. Skin is pink with fine bumps that grew across breast over time. The breast is swollen and feels heavy. Now, in addition to fine bumps like a heat rash, there is a visible lumpy growing across the middle of the breast. It feels like cobblestones and the skin is blotchy. The breast is not hot. I was already seeing a breast specialist as a follow up to a papilloma removed due to bloody discharge about a year ago.
The PA @ the breast center referred me to a dermatologist as well as a followup with the breast surgeon at the center. The Dermatologist thought rash was due to topical irritant and prescribed a steroid cream applied 2x daily. Rash did not go away but fine bumps weren’t as pronounced. At 2 week follow up, the Dermatologist could see and feel the cobblestone of breast and said it was under the skin and I should follow up with an ob/gyn for cystic mastitis even though I had full hysterectomy incl ovaries for endometriosis 7 years ago.
This week I began to intermittently have deep radiating pain under my arm and to the far left side of breast with the rash. The areas are pink.I saw the breast surgeon today who was only concerned about the pain. She did an US of underarm and side of breast said lymph nodes in the area of the pain were not enlarged. She felt pain is due to fibrocystic disease, stop 1 cup of coffee per day, take flax seed oil and follow up in 6 weeks. She felt the skin rash and cobblestone feature is IN the skin and does not involve the breast (no imaging) and I need to go back to the dermatologist. Felt the rash looks like welts must be an unknown allergen and is not her area of expertise.
I’m totally frustrated and scared. I’ve waited weeks for these appointments. Any suggestions? BTW, I’m in the Atlanta area.
Thanks

I can't wrap my head around a surgeon prescribing flax seed oil? None of that makes sense. You need to start over with different doctors.

Barnes4 please ask your dematologist for a skin punch biopsy. They should do more than one, I had 3 at my initial Dx. If the cobblestone feature you describe is peau d'orange you've been dealing with this too long and shouldn't waste any time.

Thank you LoriCA & AliceBastable, so much. I am looking for new doctors and seeking punch biopsies. I saw my rheumatologist a couple weeks back for a routine visit and to be sure this did not look like a Rheumatoid finding by exam & blood work which were both neg & he recommended I get a biopsy and proper dx. I’ll see if he can write something that I can take with me to a new appt/new doc

Update: My PCP referred me for dx mammo next week as well as a referral to a differentdermatologist. I am so thankful.

Good luck with the mammogram and dermatologist.
