I have surgery scheduled for a lumpectomy in two weeks. All of a sudden I realize I don’t know what type of surgeon I should see and how to find one. I think I was in such a hurry to get this done I wasn't thinking clearly. My surgeon is a general surgeon who only works with women's breast issues. She is not board certified in any specialty as of yet though. As much as I would hate to cancel my surgery I want to make sure I get the right one for this (and possibly other) surgeries. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

There is not a board certification specialty for breast surgery. All breast surgeons are “general surgeons.” If all the surgeon you are booked with does is breasts then he or she is a specialist. The best are probably at university medical centers with dedicated breast centers. You are having an excisional biopsy

In Michigan, NCI designated cancer centers are Karmanos at Wayne State in Detroit and Rogel at University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Both would likely have high-risk breast clinic programs

with my excisional biopsy, my primary care physician recommended one to me, her reviews looked good, so I went with her. Do you have a primary care physician or other doctor whom you trust to recommend one? or look up reviews for the one you already have. might be fine.
