Called on a Saturday by my onc about possible mets

Options

Well I’m assuming she’s concerned if she’s calling me on a Saturday, that’s for sure. She wants me to have FNA but I already have an appointment with an endocrinologist next week so I’m waiting for that. (Plus they scheduled me for a hysteroscopy/polypectomy this week and I can only miss so much work. My finances are destroyed and I’m living in an unfinished basement because cancer has really made me lose everything already).

My onc is on the younger side (I’m guessing maybe early 40s at most), so when she says “I’ve never seen...” I take it with a grain of salt. But she’s very concerned about one of my thyroid nodules and thinks not only is it likely not benign, also thinks even though she’s never seen it before, it’s possibly to the parathyroid (not thyroid, as stated in report) and is potentially a met from my tnbc and not a new primary cancer.

Anyone ever had Mets to Thyroid or parathyroid? What were your imaging features and symptoms? My vitamin D levels are almost nonexistent at this point, despite prescription supplements. I have a feeling of “thickness” in my neck. Occasionally feel like I can’t swallow - it takes an extra second and more effort. When I eat, I have to have water handy because I am constantly feeling like good gets stuck in my throat.

One very small lymph node on the left side inner top of neck (nodules are on right side). I think it’s a gland. I’m really not sure what a swollen lymph node feels like.

The base of my neck is itchy for some reason. Like right above my clavicle.

This is frustrating. I wish she hadn’t called me on a weekend. I know she’s busy and has to fit in a lot of things that maybe don’t fit into her normal workday, but a weekday evening would have been better. Oh well.

Hoping you have answers soon. I have had docs call on Saturdays. If it is their call weekend, they do that in thier down time.

Thanks, KBee. She never calls, even on weekdays. Funny thing is, I can feel a very, very distinct hard lump on my LEFT side of my neck just at the top of where I think the thyroid is.

Could be a lymph node, but given that they mixed up and said the lesion was on my right femur when it was actually on my left, I won't be surprised to find out the nodules are actually on the left side of the thyroid, not the right.
