Allergic reaction to tamoxifen

Options

anyone had an allergic reaction to tamoxifen? I just started taking it 5 days ago and I’m experiencing hoarseness, itching and tingling of my throat and tongue. It’s fairly mild but gradually getting more intense as the days go on. I’m not taking any new meds, other than tamoxifen, or eating anything unusual. I don’t have any allergies to anything else so this weird. Of course it’s the weekend so I can’t call my doctor, I just took an Allegra because that’s the only allergy medicine I have on hand, no idea if it will help.

Hi deweygirl19, I have never heard of that reaction from Tamoxifen. I have read on this site it is usually an itchy rash. Anything is possible with this drug. Maybe it is a result of an interaction with another med you are taking. I would stop taking it and call the on call doctor in case he/she wants you to take Benadryl. I wouldn't restart taking the tamoxifen until you talk to your doctor. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Spoonie77 had a terrible allergic reaction to tamoxifen.

Call your doctor, I'm sure the group she/he is in has coverage.

prahan do you know if it’s the tamoxifen or the Lupron? I’m not taking lupron. I don’t have any pain, just itching, hoarseness and swelling of my tongue

I don’t know if my symptoms were an allergy or intolerance, but I had shortness of breath with the Tamoxifen pill. Tried it two different times and happened both times. I was not ready for an oopherectomy at that time, so I switched to liquid Tamoxifen and had no problem with it.
I agree that you should stop and talk to a dr. before continuing.

I don't know really. I don't have swelling of tongue. I didn't take any medicine other than Tamoxifen. Lupron shot 3 months once.

If I were concerned about a possible allergy, I would stop taking the medication until I could be evaluated. Especially tamoxifen...there's no harm in skipping it until you can see a doctor.
