Ultrasound guided biopsy
December 4 - Stereotactic needle biopsy, right breast = ductal Carcinoma in SITU. December 18 met with breast surgeon to schedule lumpectomy. Recommended an ultrasound guided needle biopsy before surgery on left breast because of some areas of concern. December 31 Ultrasound guided needle biopsy went horribly wrong. First the technician could not locate the area of concern. Called in the doctor. They both continued to search and finally found the area. Dr. started biopsy with 10 gauge needle. There was NOT ENOUGH LYDOCAINE and I felt the needle was going to come out the other side of my breast!!!. I told him twice!! He was poking and prodding trying to find the location. Eventually he did vacuum out a core sample, but I began to bleed profusely. He compressed and pinched to no avail. It was Torture! He was unable to stop the bleeding and called for another doctor. 2nd doctor and eventually got the bleeding to stop. Blood had run all down my back and the nurse was cleaning me off. I was trembling so badly I couldn't even talk. The nurse bandaged my breast and wrapped a compression bandage completely around both breasts. She wrote down a telephone number to call if I started bleeding again. I couldn't get out of there fast enough and will NEVER let that happen to me ever again. I am considering this a case of malpractice. I was not on any blood thinners and never have been.
Note this was New Year's Eve. I never got a follow up call..nothing. Two days later I finally called them to see if I could take the compression bandage off and nurse said "Oh yes, you could have taken that off two days ago!" I discussed this episode with my surgeon and all she said was '"they had a conference about it". She saw how black and blue my breast was!
Surgery for partial mastectomy January 6 and it went well. Very little pain. A couple of days later my breast had completely swollen to the point I was worried about the skin splitting. It was so hard too. At the follow up my surgeon said she had seen this before. It takes 2 - 6 months to normalize. Fine.
At this point I feel I take one step forward and two steps backwards. Medically things just don't seem to be going right. Now I have to have an MRI because the biopsy of the left breast was not in the right spot. The marker was placed in a spot where my bra strap starts- not even in my breast!. MRI in two weeks right in the middle of radiation. Breast is still swollen, but not as bad. Waiting for the anvil to drop.
