I'm not seeing many mentions of Lumpectomy with Bilateral Oncoplastic Reconstruction. Is anyone considering this option? Is it being offered by your surgeons as an option?

I had my lumpectomy with bilateral oncoplastic reconstruction last week - since I'm only a week out I can't really provide much feedback. I'm interested in other replies though and will check out the thread that was linked. Thanks for posting!

I had IDC but I had a lumpectomy with bilateral reduction in July 2019. I have zero regrets and the recovery was not that bad. Only used pain pills for one day. Due to such a large number of procedures (I had IORT too), I spent one night in the hospital

Hi Flutegirl. Thanks for posting here. You have most likely had your first post surgery followup by now and may have received your pathology report as well. Please let us know how you made out and how you're feeling.

I had my pre-surgery appointment with my breast surgeon yesterday and everything is a go for this surgery on Wednesday. I'm told the surgery will take 3-4 hours and I am expected to go home the same day. My biggest concern at the moment is getting sick from anesthesia and pain meds. Even with anti-nausea meds I receive I still become nauseous and vomit. I dread it!

Thank you smackan for weighing in to say you had no regrets. You have no idea how much that helps! Blessings!

Strive - ask for a scope patch. The anesthesiologist can do that. It made all the difference in the world to me with post surgical nausea. I had NONE with the patch

strive - I second the suggestion by minus above for a scopolamine patch, my plastic surgeon always uses them. Two things - don't touch the patch and then touch your eye, and if you have a morning surgery get the patch prescription filled and place the patch behind your ear the night before surgery so it has fully kicked in by the time your surgery occurs. The patch is long acting so should cover you over at least 48 hours. Also, if you are prescribed an oral antibiotic (this is preventive, and commonly done) it can be helpful toeat some yogurt each day that you're taking it to assist your GI system.

Minus Two and SpecialK, Thank you very much for your suggestions. I am about to call now to ask for a script for the scopolamine patch. I'll let you know how I make out.

I called my surgeon and was prescribed a scopolamine patch which I'm putting on tonight. Praying for no nausea. Have to be at the hospital for 8:30 am so about to get myself ready for bed. Blessings all!

Reporting back: My surgery on March 26th went without a hitch...including NO nausea. I handled the surgery fine and was back home by 6 pm that evening. I slept in a recliner chair so as not to roll onto my sides. I had 2 drains which were removed one week later. Smiling face!!! I had very little pain and at this point just some discomfort.

I've have multiple post op followups and all is reported to be well including my path report with it's clean margins. I met with MO to discuss endocrine therapy and will meet this week with the RO.

All in all it's been a much easier surgery than anticipated by me. I'm very pleased with my results and glad this part is over and done.

    Blessings to all.
