Aromasin vs Arimidex
Hi All,
I was on Arimidex for 7 months after radiation. At first it was not bad some nausea, hair loss and joint pain and I said I can do this! After the 5th month I was exhausted, depressed and gained 10 lbs. My joint pain was bad and I was miserable. I told my oncologist and he took me off of it for a month and now I am goin to try Aromasin. He said they have a different chemical make up and my body may be able to tolerate this better. I am going to give it a shot. But he said if I start to get those severe side effects with this. I am to stop taking it and he said he is not going to put me back on another one as my body just can not tolerate it. I hope Aromasin works for me. How has it worked for you?
Thanks

There’s no way to predict how your body will react, Zeke. For me, however, Aromasin has been much easier to take. Good luck!

There is really no way to predict how you will do on exemestane (Aromasin) until you try it. I have been on all three AI's and have had bone/joint pain on all three. I take Alleve for the pain during the day and use cannabis, a 1:1 CBD/THC formulation, in the evening to cope with those se's. However, I am stage IV so not taking an AI, which has kept me NED for over 8 years, is not an option for me. Wishing you the best.

Hi ZEKE,
I am doing okay on Anastrozole after just over the 1 year mark. (I'm on the 10 year plan!)
I started on Aromasin and had back and knee pain but it may have been from coming off rads just before starting it.
Aromasin was too expensive for me, a tier 3 with my insurance, so my onc switched me.
I take a lot of joint supplements and manage any pain I get okay. I take my pill before bed.
I'm almost 60, have had 2 BC, BMX, and a few expander/exchange surgeries. Sometimes I don't know if my aches are from Anastrozole or everything else.
We just have to try one thing and then possibly another.
Post edited: I take Anastrozole.
Good luck!

Hi thanks for your reply! May we all hang in there the best we can.

Exemestane and Aromasin are the same drug. Aromasin is the brand name, but the active chemical compound is the same. Fillers can differ in brand name vs. generics, which may or may not cause se’s.

I am on Exemestane and have been for over 2 years. I have some bone pain and insomnia but it's tolerable. I started off on letrozole and lasted 2 weeks. My hands were going numb! Good luck to you.
