Pain after surgery

I apologize if this is a common question previously answered. I am writing on behalf of my wife, 57 yrs old who just underwent a lumpectomy on Jan 13 (12 days ago). She had a +/- 2 cm mass in the upper right quadrant of her right breast. The surgery went well, 2 sentinel nodes were removed. The surgeon told me after the surgery that a singular incision was made to remove both the mass and the sentinel nodes. After about 2 days, her breast looked very bruised and swollen compared to her normal breast. Fast forward a few more days and she is feeling well overall. Her bruising has changed from black/blue to yellow, her swelling has gone down, she says her breast feels softer and the incision site seems unremarkable; a bit of dried blood that has not changed over several days. But in the last 3 days, she has complained of pain near the incision site and in the area between the armpit and top of her breast. She is not taking anything for the pain but it is discomforting.She also said that she feels some warmth near the incision site. She has and never had any fever post surgery.She also complains that there is some referred pain in the shoulder blade area on the side of the surgical site.

My question is whether this is a normal post surgical response. I have read that some women are ready to go back to work after two days of surgery. Maybe my wife could too, but after 12 days she has an obvious discomfort with pain. I am just wondering if this is a normal post surgical evolution or whether we should be looking at going back to the hospital on Monday to investigate. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I am thinking that it might be some nerve pain. My surgery was 11/7/2020. It became worse for me after about 3 weeks. I had bilateral mastectomies but had sentinel node removal (3). Has she checked with her Breast surgeon?

Thank you. This is useful to know. We have tried contacting the surgeon the last couple of days but have no success . We will head over to the breast clinic at the hospital Monday.
